HAPPY NEW YEAR! 2010
The enthusiasm of yesterday’s return to school was palpable. Children running to their classes in anticipation of seeing their friends and teachers, and Hearts and Fritz, of course—smiles were everywhere! A great beginning to a new year, a year in which SBMS celebrates its inception 36 years ago.
SBMS’s San Francisco-based Socrates Productions indicates the editing of “Willi Wonka” is progressing successfully; the three-camera shoot went well during the performance, and the still photograph album is also being quickly assembled. Many thanks to all for your restraint in photographing the performance, and sincere apologies for the shortage of chairs—we’re attempting to solve our seating challenge with an entirely new approach that will include reserved seating for future performances. The new approach will be unveiled for SBMS’s upcoming ONLINE AUCTION (the best getting better!).
Tonight on PBS 9pm
Yale University’s Dr. Mark Brackett is part of the program, and part of SBMS’s ‘team.’ Dr. Brackett is working with AMIUSA and SBMS. Last night, tonight, and tomorrow night. We can discuss on Friday, yes?
COFFEE WITH JIM
Yes, You May Say, ‘No!’
with Jim Fitzpatrick, Juniper Dwight, and Brian Sperling
Friday, Jan. 8 - 8:45am RSVP or drop-in
Thurs. Jan. 14 - 6:30pm RSVPs only—minimum of 10 req’d
Please, join with SBMS’s HOS, and veteran Montessorians (they were both in Montessori schools as children), Juniper (Sycamore) Dwight, and Brian (Redwood) Sperling, in a lively discussion regarding the Montessori approach to directing children through positives, even when things go astray.
When and how does “Montessori” reproach a child? Plus, What to do when your child comes home unhappy with something at school…Plenty of real-life solutions blended with delicious coffee and tasty treats.
With experiences and examples punctuating the conversation, parents can learn how to actually tell your child, “No.” Wait! What? Is this true, is there is a “Montessori” way to say “No!” RSVP PDQ.
LUNCH PROGRAM / PASTA and PIZZA
Pasta and Pizza sign-up forms are still available.
Pasta on Mondays and Pizza on Fridays.
Please, help us reduce waste and maintain our lunch protocols by NOT including beverages with your child’s lunch. Because the children still use plates, flatware, and glasses for their lunch service, it’s actually easier and creates greater continuity for all of the children if SBMS provides beverages (filtered water).
Our Green Award recipient responsibility includes our ongoing effort to reduce waste; please utilize re-usable containers for your child’s lunch.
Menu suggestions: Fruit kabobs. Fruit with cream cheese dip (combine cream cheese with brown sugar and vanilla). Veggies. Ants on a log: Celery with peanut butter sprinkled with raisins. Edamame. Snap peas. Broccoli. Dips. Carrot sticks.
We’ll do our part to inform you as to what is eaten and what isn’t. Our goal is healthy food from your kitchen with your child directly involved in the preparation and presentation of their mid-day meal at school. Reduced waste and greater nutrition is a good good thing. Bon appétit!
Journey & Discovery (RSVP PDQ)
Friday, Jan. 29 6:00pm-9:00pm (the best three hours this side of Avatar!)
This is the one. Besides, Avatar isn’t real.
If there was one event or activity that captures the essence of your child’s Montessori experience, this is the one. Journey through SBMS’s incredible classroom in a candlelit vigil, enjoy a candle lit dinner in Alumni Hall, and then return to the classrooms for lessons and activities.
Be your child. Experience their world at SBMS.
It’s incredible. Veteran families are welcome to repeat, everyone needs to RSVP as seating will be limited. Seriously.
